Cultivating Radical Humility: Food Literacy for a Changing World
What does it mean to be food literate at a university without a college of agriculture? At the Yale Sustainable Food Program, we’ve come to define food literacy not just as knowing what to eat or how food systems work, but as an orientation of radical humility—rooted in the soil, open to complexity, and grounded in long-term thinking. This talk reflects on how students grow into food literate leaders in fields from policy to the arts—not through moral imperatives, but by embracing ambiguity, seeking root causes, and co-authoring the future of food with humility, creativity, and care.
