BIOCHAR: Self-Sustaining and Self Replicating

Biochar Warm Heart Worldwide,  Michael Shafer Y‘76

Biochar technology is a rediscovered strategy for carbon sequestration. The practice of adding charred biomass to improve soil quality is ancent. Modeled after a 2,000-year-old practice in the Amazonian basin, indigenous people created areas of rich, fertile soils called terra preta (meaning “dark earth”). Michael Shafer shows how his development is being utilized in farms throughout Africa and Thailand.
