In 2019 the Sustainability Fund was established to support the Office of Sustainability, which has a goal to work toward a Yale where sustainability is seamlessly integrated into the operations, scholarship, and daily life of the University, positioning Yale as a local and global leader. The Sustainability Fund has supported programming, communications, events, and support for student assistants and early-career interns. Thanks to the generosity of many alumni, the Fund has raised over $60,000 to date. Gifts can be made to the YBG Sustainability Fund at any time!
In the 2023-24 school year, the Fund will support the following student projects to:
• create student travel surveys to support scope 3 emissions data gathering,
• develop student-focused outreach programming on climate adaptation and resiliency,
• evaluate faculty research linked to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals,
• enhance graphic design for sustainability communications, and
• work to manage the School of Architecture design waste.
In previous years the Fund has supported these efforts:
- The Global University Climate Forum with 600 student climate activists from 44 countries.
- The Campus Biodiversity Plan with recommendations for plantings and a business case.
- The Arts Area Green Space to promote healthy reuse of material and enhance greenspaces.
- The Schools of Management and Architecture to collect data for the Yale Bike Map.
- The School of Management plan for a bikeshare program with New Haven Parking Authority.
- The School of the Environment to enhance Yale’s work on climate adaptation planning.
- Yale College to create the Yale Energy Alliance.
- A Community Resilience Building workshop with The Nature Conservancy.
- Support for the Office of International Students and Scholars sustainability programming.
- Centralize the tracking of community service hours at Yale.
We are proud of the work the Office of Sustainability is doing to support student environmental leaders at Yale. These and future student projects at Yale are dependent in part on our financial contributions. We hope that you will join us in supporting this vital enterprise at Yale with a generous gift to the YBG Sustainability Fund.
Thanks for your support, and go Yale Blue Green!
