Yale Blue Green Alumni Network
In its effort to “harness the power of the Yale community to bring about meaningful change in global sustainability” Yale Blue Green is building a network of alumni in several ways. Initially, YBG launched a Sustainability Initiative in 2019 to ask the University to demonstrate leadership in addressing the climate crisis, and over 500 alumni signed a petition to Yale’s leaders. At the same time, YBG started monthly calls and a newsletter that provided alums the opportunity to sign up for regular communication. And more recently, the Yale Cross Campus YBG shared interest group has expanded to over 100. Currently, we have over 1500 members receiving regular communication from YBG and participating in our activities.
As we seek to expand our network, YBG is collaborating with the leadership of Planetary Solutions to survey Yale alumni about their engagement in environmental sustainability. The survey will enhance our understanding of the kinds of environmental fields Yale alumni are currently working in. One outcome we hope will be to facilitate collaboration between alumni and Yale faculty on projects of mutual interest and expertise. We also hope that eventually there might be a database of Yale alumni working in sustainability. In that way we hope through YBG to promote “global environmental sustainability through alumni action.”
